    [Part 3.1] In the stronghold.

Post by Typhlosion on Mon May 26, 2014 1:15 am

Arc was treated to a gut-wrenching experience of suddenly being in an entirely new place, accompanied by a mostly naked enemy. They were in the escape bay of the Justice Corp headquarters, and aside from Adrian, who brought her here, there was another soldier inside. It was the man she had fought with, alongside J!

    Adrian: 50/700
    *attacks only do 1.
    ??? 500/1000

Arc's eyes widen as she realizes where she is and the current situation she's ended up in.

    "Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!" she grunts.

She kicks Adrian in the balls and he doubles over, and she tosses him across the room at the other man before leaping back to the far end of the room in defense position.

Wall behind her, her two enemies in front of her.
This is gonna get real ugly real fast...

    HP: 180/180
    SP: 15/15

    ???:450/1000

As Adrian's spine smashed against his ally's sturdy armor, the armored soldier leaps into action, drawing it's rifle, and firing several rounds at arc.

(Even numbers, ???'s attacks do double damage, odds, he gets a second attack. (I'll roll twice, but only count the second one if the # die is odd.))

As Arc succumbed to the hail of bullets, she could hear the sound of many boots running into the room.
    "I'm surprised...get...bay...Adrian...now!"

After an indeterminate amount of time, Arc awoke to find herself in some sort of metal room, with a pulsing energy wall one side. Behind the translucent barrier stood a young man, with his arms held behind his back.

"Ah, you're awake. I think we should talk."

Arc paused and examined the room. It seemed to be some kind of containment unit. She stood up and brushed herself off, every muscle aching. Had they mended her wounds? It didn't make sense.

She walked up to the wall in front of the man, but made no attempt to touch the barrier. She wasn't stupid. "Who are you?"

"My name is Varic Valentine. Victor Valentine is my great grandfather." He said, leaning against the wall, staring at Arc, waiting for her to react.

    "Victor Valentine.... is your....?"
She'd barely known the man by name, but she could remember it very well. It was the first name she'd heard when she woke up.

But it didn't make much sense. Was Victor that old? She closed her eyes and tried to reassess the image in her mind, but failed to come up with any conclusions.

She shook her head and opened them, and relaxed her postition.
"Okay, Varic," she said, "I'll bite. I know the name. So what? You got some family issues goin' on here? Is that what this is?"

Varic laughed, pulling a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, and lighting one.
"Family issues? Certainly not. My Great Grandfather has the best interests of the world at heart, but the road to Hell is paved with good intentions. That's something you and your friends know perfectly well, isn't it?" He said, blowing a ring of smoke as he gathered his thoughts.
"No, Justice Corp is interested in the same thing Hero Corp is. Saving our world."

Arc chuckled a bit at the last statement. "Right, okay then. Same goals, different methods. In the end you could say this is corporate warfare y'know?"

This was followed by a short silence. Arc eyed the cigarette and idly wondered for a moment if cancer was a problem here.

Arc sighed. "So what's it got to do with us?" she said, "and what do you want from me? I mean you haven't killed me so obviously there's something you want from me. I'm tellin' you now I aint selling out my friends."

Varic sighed, grinding the butt of his cigarette into the wall behind him.
"You're not getting this. I'm going to let you out, and escort you to the observation deck. Don't try anything, and you won't be restrained." Walking to the barrier, Varic pressed a series of buttons, causing the field to go down.
"This way." He said, leading Arc to a set of stairs heading up.

Arc followed him up the stairs.
She felt apprehension in every bone in her body. So he wanted her for something, to show her something it seems... But what?

What could he need to show her that he had to send his lackeys to attack them--assuming he was the one who sent them--and then capture her?

She admitted, she probably wouldn't have been the most willing guest, but suspicion and mistrust is a natural reaction. And those attackers didn't exactly dispel the feeling.

As they reached the top of the stairs, Arc found herself in a room with large windows on each wall. For some reason, all of the windows were covered with metal shutters.
"Bring the shutters up please." Varric said, seemingly to no one. Before Arc could react, the shutters began raising, revealing a bleak landscape. In the distance was the tattered remnants of the city, clear even from here that it was in shambles. Demons of all shapes and sizes patrolled the wastes, ones that ventured too close getting fired upon by Justice Corp soldiers.
"This is the future of Azgard. The time distortion got worse and worse, until Valorinx arrived in our timeline, circumventing his own death. Not only that, but because of the nature of the distortion, multiple Valorinx's, from multiple times arrived. The five of you did as well, only to succumb to the powers of the soul gems. Now you serve as Valorinx's generals. The six of you that you know today tried to stop them, but failed. You weren't good enough." Varic said, lighting another cigarette.

Arc stepped up to the windows and peered over the landscape. It all seemed so unreal.

"But we..." we did beat him... she repeated to herself in her mind. But how was she so sure? She flashed back to the image of Valornix frozen as she entered the rift. we beat him... she thought, ...but we couldn't destroy him.

Her fist tightened. She didn't like unfinished business.

"So then we're out there? Us six? We're wreaking havoc somewhere in some other place, doing God knows what, being someone other than ourselves?" she asked, "why didn't Victor tell us any of this?"

"Because Victor doesn't know." Varic said, puffing on his smoke. "I thought it would have been obvious. We're in the future. Justice Corp is the remnants of the old Hero Corp. We managed to figure out how to use the time Distortion to our advantage, and travel back in time. I told my men to subdue you, and bring you here. History tells me that you lot don't often do things willingly without evidence, and you weren't likely to take my men at their word. You see, I believe I know how to stop Valorinx, and save our world. But I require genetic tissue from the six of you to do so."

Arc made a face and leaned on the railings before the window as she thought back and she realized she didn't really know where she was or when she was when she'd gotten into this mess. She felt kinda dumb not letting that be the primary possibility, but now everything made sense.

It made sense if Victor didn't know about it in his timeline. It made sense that when you rip open one rift, you open more, and what comes in can also come out. It makes sense that eventually, Hero Corp. would've been the last survivors....but still...

She shook her head and shrugged. "I don't know..."

It all seemed so fishy. If things were this bad, who knows what they'd do with their DNA. What desperate measures would they take? What RISK? She was sure that if she refused, they'd take her DNA by force anyway. She was alone, and she had no idea how to go back.

"...I'll--I'll talk to them. Try to convince them. Send me back. I assure you I won't just turn my back on you if you do. But I'm sure I'll be more convincing than a buncha mysterious armored men."

She unstrapped her glove and took it off, then extended it to him. "Here you can take my tissue, at the very least. A sort of peace offering." she then smiled sarcastically, "That is, if you didn't take it already while I was unconscious."

"I decided I'd give you a chance to accept before taking it." Varic said, grinding his cigarette out. "My boys'll take you down to the lab, then we'll set you up with a jump module. Just activate while the others are holding on to you, and you should all arrive in the bay you first showed up in."
With that, he leaves. Two soldiers come in and escort Arc to the bay. A man in a white lab coat takes some blood from Arc, then she's escorted to a place where she can safely arrive in the present. When she presses the button, she arrives to the other five, standing around a destroyed machine.
